Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport

Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport serves the important role of connecting southwest Michigan air travelers to worldwide destinations, and it does so cost-effectively. To maintain it’s cost-effective position in the area, airport management began researching the possibility of replacing lighting inside and outside the terminal with more energy-efficient, longer-lasting products. “The more we looked at it, the more sense it made.” said Cliff Moshoginis, Airport Director.

Over 100 Lumerica LED fixtures were installed around the airport’s exterior-in the passenger and employee lots, the de-icing pad, and along the entrance/exit roadway, resulting in a noticeable improvement in light output.

The airport will use 62% less lighting energy with LED than with the original HID technology -about $11,000 in annual savings, along with another $5,000 per year in maintenance costs. Moreover, Lumerica’s fixtures are also completely modular and can be serviced to last additional life-cycles.

"Our business and governmental communities have gone to great efforts to ensure the strong performance of this airport. When the suggestion was made to look at re-lighting the airport with LED technology, the communities once again helped us identify and implement a great project, and we are appreciative that a Michigan manufacturer could provide a quality product ."
